Handcarding & Woolen Spinning - $35

Saturday, March 12th, 9a-12p

We are very excited to host Carol Wagner of Hidden Valley Farm & Woolen Mill to teach this class!  Carol and her husband own a sheep farm and woolen mill in Valders, Wisconsin.

As handspinners, we often feel challenged to process the fiber that we want to spin.  This workshop is an opportunity for you to learn the 'hows', 'whys', and techniques to be successful.  Students will concentrate on basic carding techniques and will learn effective fiber preparation using handcards.  We will discover how to card using a relaxed, stress-free method which will enable the student to enjoy the carding process.  We will discuss which wools are appropriate for handcarding and why.  There will be lots of opportunity to practice carding techniques using wools from a variety of sheep breeds.  After we have learned effective carding, we will use the carded rolags to learn the techniques of woolen spinning, including the long-draw!

Prerequisites: students should have beginning to intermediate spinning skills and be comfortable with a wheel and making simple adjustments

Supplies: There will be a $20 material fee to be paid to Carol the day of the class and all fiber will be provided.  Students should bring their spinning wheel, wheel accessories, and a set of handcards if they have them.  There will be handcards available for people who don't have their own.
